| Head coach Javi Aguirre's team has played a flawless tournament so far in every aspect. Mexico has won all four matches and hasn't conceded a single goal. Euphoria in the country is immense, as is the belief that they can knock one of the hottest favorites for the World Cup title out of the competition. Nevertheless, it must be said that England is by far the strongest opponent awaiting the hosts from Mexico. We can therefore look forward to a real highlight match, which will be played in front of around 88,000 spectators at the Azteca Stadium in Guadalajara. The atmosphere could well prove to be the x-factor for the home team even though the English supporters will once again live up to their reputation as one of the most passionate fan groups. From a sporting perspective, the trend is leaning towards a low-scoring match. Too much is at stake, and there's too much respect for each opponent. Mexico has been one of the biggest positive surprises of this World Cup so far. Four games, four wins, and an 8-0 goal difference speak for themselves. While their dominant group victory with maximum points was initially somewhat downplayed due to the supposedly weak competition, the last critics were silenced after their convincing win in the round of 32 against Ecuador. Far from easy England manage to beat 2-1 Congo DR in the previous round. Advancing to the next round is what counts, even if fans and media are still waiting for a major footballing breakthrough. At the same time, World Cup euphoria is growing in the country. |
